Santa Rosa Academy Class Receives Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Grant
Santa Rosa Academy received a grant from Lowe’s Toolbox for Education for $4100.00. Dr. Daniel McKinney’s Environmental Science class used the $4100 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Grant for an engineering and horticulture project.
Dr. Daniel McKinney’s Environmental Science classes engineered their own solar-powered, vertical, hydroponic systems out of recycled/repurposed materials titled Hydrorecyverticultrue.
The students have been studying population, resource management, food production, waste management, and conservation strategies. The Hydrorecyverticultrue project encompasses all of those things while requiring them to develop research, design, engineering, and construction skills. It combines hydrodynamics, photoelectric systems, and materials engineering to produce a system that satisfies multiple environmental and social goals. It also lays the foundation for the students to pursue further formal and informal studies in the fields of horticulture and environmental science.
