A charter school is a public school providing alternative options for parents. Charter schools typically have a special focus, in our case, we focus on academics AND character. We offer Biomedical, Engineering, Arts & Technology, Criminal Justice, Cadet Corps, Horticulture, and Business programs as well as holding high expectations for student behavior.
Any student in Transitional Kindergarten to 12th grade residing in the county and contiguous counties can attend.
a. Emphasis on academics and character development.
b. Focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math).
c. 1:1 Laptops for Learning: all site based students in grades 6-12 will be a part of the 1:1 program.
d. Small class sizes at 25 students or less in grades K-12.
e. Maintain a small school environment.

g. Personalized schedules (combinations of site based, independent study and college coursework based on student needs).
h. High behavioral expectations.
i. Service oriented; our staff is your partner.
j. Community Service minded. Students are required to complete a Community Service Project for graduation.
No. The district approved our charter as a separate, independent,charter school back in April, 2005. We have our own school board and chart our own direction.
No, any student K-12th residing in Riverside County can attend. Additionally, we do not discriminate (as per Title IX).
No.
No, we are a public school and receive funds from the state of California just like traditional public schools. We receive less funds overall than traditional schools and we do not receive funding for facilities. In order to partially compensate for less funding, we have several annual fundraisers through the Santa Rosa Academy Foundation.
No, we offer a free, public, education. However, our students wear school uniforms and you will be required to provide them. We do offer uniform assistance for families with a financial hardship.
We encourage you to attend an Informational Meeting. To sign up, fill out the information meeting form online and we will sign you up for a meeting. You will find this form by going to the Parent Resources tab across the top of our website and then click on the ‘Admissions’ tab that scrolls down below it.

It depends on the grade of your student. Some of our classes have waiting lists, others do not.

If there are more students than openings, we will hold a public, random drawing. The lottery is typically held the first week of March. Visit our Annual Lottery page.
Yes, in order from highest priority to lowest: Staff, Board Member, Heritage Current Students, Current Students, Heritage Siblings, Siblings, MUSD, and General Public.
A Heritage student is and student that has been enrolled with SRA for every consecutive year since 2012. A Heritage Sibling is a sibling to a Heritage Student.
The results are posted online once the lottery has concluded and the results have been finalized. Visit our Annual Lottery page. If you are offered placement after the lottery you will be notified via email and/or phone. If your contact information has changed you may update it online: Check our website for instructions after the lottery has taken place.
Yes, after the lottery is completed and verified you will have a chance to request a track change via our online form.
If your child did not get in on the track desired, they will need to re-enter the lottery again the following year for the desired track. For example if the student was on the Blue Track lottery but did not get in and enrolled into Red Track, the student would need to re-enter the lottery for the next year for another opportunity to get into Blue Track.
The names are put onto our Waiting List in the order in which they were randomly chosen in the lottery. The Wait List is kept until the following year until a new lottery is run.
Yes, a student placed at number 47 on the waiting list for the current year could be re-drawn the following year at a lower or higher number. Because we are required to conduct a lottery annually, the waiting list names must be put back into the lottery every year.
We offer three educational alternatives:
 
Red Track: full Independent Study/Home school.
White Track: partial Independent Study/Home school (3 days at home) and partial Site Based (2 days at school).
Blue Track: full 5 day, site based school.
 
Yes, you may petition to transfer tracks. If accepted, your student will be placed on the bottom of the Track Transfer portion of the wait list. If there is an opening, the student on top of the wait list will be offered a position. A student may only Transfer Tracks once a school year.
Uniforms: We believe that school is a student’s “job” and they must come dressed and ready to work. Uniforms are required for all students whether they are on campus one day a week or daily. Uniforms consist of pants, shorts, skirts, skorts, capris, polo shirts, blouses, sweaters, sweatshirts and jackets. Uniforms can be purchased through our authorized vendors. Students must also have traditional hair cuts and styles including only natural color dye in one color. If a student has a tattoo, it must be covered. Additional details are found in the student handbook.
Independent Study is a program in which the student completes the majority of their education at home. We provide you with the curriculum, assignments and support. We assign an Educational Advisor (EA) to work with you.
You will schedule weekly meetings with your EA.
Yes. We have optional workshops for grades K-8. High school students have the option of taking classes with our site based students, and/or with other Independent Study students. We also offer tutoring weekly.
Yes, we offer optional field trips for grades K-8. High school students may attend field trips with our site based students.
a. Community: we want our students to feel a part of OUR school not just a part of a teacher’s roster. All of our students belong to the Santa Rosa Academy community and can attend activities that the school provides including sports, dances, assemblies, student government, field trips and the like!
b. Service: students get weekly meetings from their Educational Advisor to ensure that they are getting all that they need. Additionally, EAs may offer students extra tutoring if needed in groups and on an individual basis.
c. Support: Students can also attend Friday workshops or tutoring during the week. Students and parents may also use the library and numerous other curricular resources we have available.
d. Parent workshops: parents get additional support through workshops and trainings offered by the school. Parents can also seek to speak/meet directly with our Mentor Teacher or Curriculum Coordinator and other support staff for help with curriculum and instruction. Our staff has personal experience with traditional, home school curriculum and can help you make curricular decisions. We’d be happy to help!
e. Character Education: students will also be exposed to character lessons and will be held accountable for improvement in character and manners. Additionally, kids can hold staff accountable for the same!
f. Developing a Habit of Mind for Success through the timeless principles of excellence, integrity and respect: we believe that all of our students can be successful. Our program assists them with the development of particular skills that will help them be successful in school and after graduation.
a. Classes on campus: students on Independent Study/Home school may take classes on campus with our site based students in any class that has room. We encourage taking Science, Math, or English classes on campus.
b. Classes/tutoring for Independent Study/Home school: students can take classes specifically designed for IS students.
c. Dual & Concurrent enrollment: 11th and 12th grade students have the opportunity to take classes at MSJC as part of our Dual and Concurrent Enrollment program. 10th and 11th graders will assess in their spring semester to see if they qualify for the following fall semester. Students are assessed in Math and English. Classes offered are English 101 & 103, Math 105, 110, 112 & 113, History 111 & 112, and Administrative Justice 101. Most classes are taught through MSJC.
d. College Credit Courses: Santa Rosa Academy offers Biomedical and Engineering college level courses. Articulated courses are also offered in Digital Media, Engineering and CTE. An articulated course is a course taken at Santa Rosa and recognized at Mount San Jacinto Community College as a college level course. This course will show up on an MSJC transcript.
e. CIF sports: our high school students can participate in CIF sports with our site based students. We currently offer Girls: Volleyball, Soccer, Completive Cheer, Softball, Cross Country, Basketball, Golf. Boys: Volleyball, Football, Wrestling, Cross Country, Basketball, Baseball, Golf.
f. Personalized Schedules: students can personalize their schedules to include any combination of site based classes, Independent Study classes AND college courses at Mount San Jacinto Community College along with participation in CIF sports, clubs, assemblies and other activities on site.
g. Community: we want our students to feel a part of OUR school not just a part of a teacher’s roster. All of our students belong to the Santa Rosa Academy community and can attend activities that the school provides including sports, dances, assemblies, student government, field trips and the like!
h. Service: students get weekly meetings from their Educational Advisor to ensure that they are getting all that they need.
