Business Leadership Academy

The Business Leadership Academy offers students grades 9-12 courses that focus on small business management along with career development and communication skills.
 
Course Sequence for Pathway Completion:
 
Business I: Introduction to Business (Articulated with MSJC’s BADM 103)
 
This course introduces students to the skills needed to effectively organize, develop, create, and manage a business. Students will learn the significance of math, reading, writing, and communicating to their future within the framework of operating a small business. They will understand how the market economy and ownership leads to wealth creation. Students will learn not only the skills necessary to become a successful business person but also the attitudes, characteristic, and techniques needed to succeed. They will learn to be able to save and make future investments in order to meet their financial goals in life. Students will build analytical skills through solving complex problems and making sound decisions in order to produce a viable business. Emphasis is placed on the functions of business management: organization, management, finance, marketing, information technology, product/service management, distribution, promotion, and selling. Additional topics to be addressed are the government’s role in a business, the assessment of personal skills, the components of the free enterprise system and its place in our global economy, human relations and interpersonal skills, career planning, the importance of business ethics, and the role quality and service play in business.

Business II: Foundations in Business (Articulated with MSJC’s BADM 105)
 
This course introduces you to the challenges of entrepreneurship including the formation, management, and success of a small business. Students will learn the significance of math, reading, writing, and communicating to their future within the framework of operating a small business. They will understand how the market economy and ownership leads to wealth creation. Students will learn not only the skills necessary to become a successful business person but also the attitudes, characteristic, and techniques needed to succeed. Additional topics to be addressed are the government’s role in a business, the assessment of personal skills, the components of the free enterprise system and its place in our global economy, human relations and interpersonal skills, the importance of business ethics, and the role quality and service play in business.

Business III: Ethical Leadership and e-Commerce
 
This course involves students in legal and ethical considerations relating to business decisions. Students will develop their leadership and management skills while creating an e-Commerce business of their choice.
Throughout the year, students will have the opportunity to meet and interview business professionals from the perspective of an entrepreneur, manager, corporate representative, accountant, and a financial advisor to gain real-world knowledge. Students enrolled in this class also learn ordering, merchandising, money handling, and accounting procedures for small businesses.

Business IV: Personal Finance and Capstone
 
In this course you will gain expert knowledge from world-renowned financial advisor, Dave Ramsey and his team of experts using Foundations in Personal Finance curriculum. Lessons will be interactive, hands-on, and students will leave with tools to be financially successful as you begin to build your financial wealth. Second semester the class will collaborate with the other capstone courses on campus to complete various projects incorporating real-world scenarios to bring concepts to market.
 
Capstone course students must do one of the following: 1. Complete an internships with a business in the community 2. Complete a capstone project where students will put to use all the skills they learned throughout the pathway.
